Servanthood: Becoming Great by Serving Others | Words of Thought

“Words of Thought”

May 17, 2025

The following is taken from one of my devotional books.

SERVANTHOOD

And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.   Mark 10:44  KJV

For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.   Galatians 5:13   KJV

In God’s upside-down economy, the way up is down. The way to be a “chief” is to become a servant. Laying down one’s life for others is inherent in the Christian life, and the most spiritual men are those who serve others.

How can one serve? By noticing and meeting needs that are within your ability to meet. A servant’s eyes are always alert for the needs of the one served. And because such alertness isn’t natural, we must train ourselves to be servants. One way to become better servants is to consider Christ, who, though Lord of all, reduced Himself to become a servant of all. In His humility, He was exalted. Serve others and the reward will be yours.

  1. R. Miller wrote:

“The secret of abundant helpfulness, is found in the desire to be a help, a blessing, to all we meet. We begin to be like Christ only when we begin to wish to be helpful. Where this desire is ever dominant, the life is an unceasing benediction. Rivers of water are pouring out from it continually to bless the world.”

May these “Words of Thought” be a blessing unto you.
