The Texas Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) is taking bold action to celebrate Confederate Heritage Month in Texas this April. With an eye-catching billboard campaign, SCV Texas aims to captivate millions of Texans by showcasing Southern history and honoring Confederate veterans along some of the state’s busiest highways.
The initiative will bring two lighted billboards to life between Georgetown and Waco—prime real estate on one of the state’s busiest highways. With over 450,000 impressions per week, these signs are poised to make a monumental impact, sharing the story of Confederate veterans with a broad and diverse audience.

Commander Michael Hurley, a driving force behind the proposal, underscored the importance of honoring heritage in a public and dignified manner. The billboards will proudly display an iconic image of Robert E. Lee, along with the Texas Division logo and the division’s official website, offering a gateway to rich historical insights.
Meanwhile, the W. W. Heartsill SCV Camp #314 has already leaped into action, securing a strategic billboard location on US Highway 59—the vital Chicago-to-Laredo route. This sign, visible to 79,000 passersby each week, stands directly across from the camp’s meeting location, serving as a bold reminder of Southern pride and heritage.
Texas is not alone in this initiative. States such as Alabama, Louisiana, and Georgia are also participating in the national campaign, each showcasing billboards that honor Confederate history and promote awareness during Confederate Heritage Month. With states working together, this coordinated effort is set to amplify the message of remembrance and education across the South.
The division’s approach is as strategic as it is passionate. The lighted billboards will shine both day and night, and if opportunity permits, they could remain up longer than anticipated at no extra cost. The SCV Texas Division is also rallying local camps to join this initiative by offering $500 in national support to erect additional billboards, amplifying the message statewide.
With Confederate Heritage Month fast approaching, the SCV Texas Division is charging ahead with unwavering determination to preserve and promote Southern history. The group’s efforts showcase a commitment to education, remembrance, and respect for the legacy of Confederate veterans.
