Texas Division Picnic Brings SCV Members Together at Historic Grounds

This past Saturday, members of the Texas Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans, gathered for a day of fellowship, food, and Southern camaraderie at the historic Confederate Reunion Grounds in Mexia, Texas. The occasion? A relaxed Division-wide picnic organized by Texas Division Commander Michael Hurley.

It wasn’t a formal meeting—just an opportunity to step away from the business of camp operations and enjoy the brotherhood that binds our Division together. It was a time to shake hands, share stories, network, and collaborate with fellow compatriots from across the state.

Ross Cox took the lead on the barbecue pit, and we’d be remiss not to thank the many attendees who brought delicious side dishes that turned the meal into an outstanding Southern potluck. The spirit of hospitality and heritage was strong throughout the day.

Also on site was Confederate Coffee Company, serving up complimentary coffee and offering their signature blends and merchandise. Their presence added a warm (and well-caffeinated) touch to the festivities.

The highlight of the afternoon came with the attendance of Past Commander-in-Chief Paul Gramling Jr., whose presence was a true honor and a reminder of the legacy and leadership that continues to shape our organization.

From start to finish, the event was a great success—a gathering of kindred spirits on sacred ground. The Texas Division looks forward to hosting more events like this in the future to continue building bonds, honoring our ancestors, and growing stronger together.
