Briscoe County, Texas
Briscoe County, located on the high plains of the Texas Panhandle, was established in 1876 and organized in 1892. Named after Andrew Briscoe, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, the county is rich in history and natural beauty. Its rugged terrain includes a portion of the breathtaking Palo Duro Canyon, a site of both prehistoric and historical significance. While the county itself was not a direct battleground during the Civil War, the Texas Panhandle region was instrumental in supporting Confederate cattle drives and frontier operations. Today, the county seat of Silverton serves as a hub for exploring Briscoe County’s history, scenic landscapes, and vibrant agricultural community.
