SUMMARY:Blair Confederate Cemetery Memorial Service and Flag Raising Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:The Texas Division\, Sons of Confederate Veterans\, will participate in a Memorial Service and Flag Raising Ceremony at Blair Confederate Cemetery near Doddridge\, Arkansas\, beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday\, August 22\, 2026. \nImportant Cemetery Location\nBlair Confederate Cemetery can be difficult to locate through a standard address or cemetery-name search. \nThe Google Maps link below will automatically open the accurate location of the cemetery: \nOpen Blair Confederate Cemetery in Google Maps\nGPS Coordinates: 33°05’25.6″N\, 93°51’59.7″W \nAttendees are strongly encouraged to open or save this link before traveling. Searching only for the cemetery’s name may provide inaccurate or incomplete directions. \nHonoring the 13th Texas Cavalry\nThe ceremony will honor 30 soldiers of the 13th Texas Cavalry who died from disease at this location during the summer of 1862. \nThe Texas Division is furnishing the large Texas flags that will be raised during the ceremony and will fly over the cemetery in perpetuity. \nThe 13th Texas Cavalry included men from the following Texas counties: \n\nAnderson County — Company D\nAngelina County — Company F\nCherokee County — Company B\nLeon County — Company A\nHenderson County — Company E\nHouston County — Companies B and C\nHunt County\nJasper County — Company G\nKaufman County\nMadison County\nMcLennan County\nNewton County — Company H\nOrange County — Company I\nPolk County\nTrinity County\nTyler County — Company K\n\nThe death toll at Blair Confederate Cemetery included men from every company except Company A of Leon County. \nTexas Division Brigades containing these counties include the 4th\, 5th\, 7th\, 8th\, 10th\, 11th and 12th Brigades. Representatives from these counties and Brigades are especially encouraged to attend and help honor the men of the 13th Texas Cavalry. \nMemorial Roll Call\nA Roll Call of the deceased soldiers will be conducted at the conclusion of the ceremony. \nThirty attendees will be selected to answer the Roll Call in honor of the 30 men who died at this location. \nAttendees are encouraged to wear their period uniforms. Ladies\, families and members of the public are also welcome to attend. \nBrigade Commanders are asked to distribute this information to their Camps and encourage participation in this important event.
